I Vanquish Munson And Win A Double-Neck Guitar
--PRESS RELEASE—
Davis Cyr Vanquishes Munson to Win Guitar Hero Tournament Over a hundred people gathered Saturday, September 6th at Munson Music to witness the first Guitar Hero Tournament in Newberry, SC. Thirty-Eight noble contenders young and old battled through the day to win real guitars for their skill at popular Guitar Hero games. When the dust finally cleared, Davis Cyr of Georgetown, who braved the weather to attend, stood holding the SG style double-neck guitar pack($700). He had bested the best on Guitar Hero 3 on Expert to vanquish Munson Summer on Dragonforce’s Through the Fire and the Flames on Hyperspeed! Now September 6th will be a day that will live in the minds of guitar hero players here forever due to Davis’ youtube video, I Vanquish Munson and Win A Double Neck Guitar!
Other winners in the Munson Music Guitar Hero Tournament include: Christian Shroup who played Guitar Hero 1 on Easy and won a half-size guitar package ($100) that he gave to his sister (since he already has one); Brandon Jones who played Guitar Hero 2 on Medium and won a Full-Size Guitar Pack($200); and Kurt McCarty who played Guitar Hero Aerosmith on Hard and won a AXL Badwater El Dorado guitar pack ($450).
Munson Music organized the Guitar Hero Tournament this year as part of the store’s annual Back to School Jam. In addition to the musical games a number of Munson Music students and teachers performed in front of the store to a moderate crowd who enjoyed hotdogs and sodas during the day. The headliners were Newberry College band The Berries headed by faculty member Larry Ellis who played an entertaining mix of rock, pop and folk standards. Ironically, Munson stepped in to cover bass player Evo while he finished his Guitar Hero face-offs. “Its like one of those saying in the loading screen,” said Evo smiling. “Leaving your real band to play Guitar Hero is not cool!”
“The whole day was an absolutely huge success! These games get the players imagining what it would be like to be a real musician and in many ways they practice fine motor and hand coordination skills that are necessary to really play,” said Munson Summer, owner of Munson Music. “My musical family just keeps growing and growing! It is great to see the kids that play the game taking advantage of our first free lesson policy and learning to really play! Now we’re planning a Halloween Battle of the Rock Bands Costume Contest to kick off our Rock Band workshop where kids can learn to be in a real rock band!”
In addition to providing the games and a hang-out spot for kids in historical downtown Newberry, Munson Music also hosts a number of free events during the month to build musical communities. Their First Friday Jam (Oct.3rd ) provides students, teachers and local musicians with an opportunity to meet and learn from one another and their Third Thursday Open Mic (Oct.16th -8pm) provides a place for local musicians to perform for one another.
